Obituary WASHINGTON-Richard W. "Dick" Kennedy, 90, of Washington, IL, passed away at 12:47 pm Saturday, March 27, 2010, at his residence. Born on September 2, 1919 in Lawton, OK to William M. and Dovie Lewis Kennedy, he married Darlene Herring on September 25, 1945 in LaGrange, GA. She died on April 27, 1995 in Washington, IL. Surviving are 1 son, Richard S. Kennedy of Washington, 1 daughter, Martha D. (Darrell E.) Parkhouse of Delavan, 3 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and 2 sisters. Dick was a World War II Army veteran serving in the 101st Airborne Division. He was a P.O.W., captured in Bastogne, Belgium during the Battle of the Bulge receiving a purple heart for injuries sustained in action. He worked at Pabst Brewing Co. in Peoria Heights as a millwright retiring in 1981 after 21 years. Dick had also been self-employed as a carpenter for many years. In his early years he worked as a photographer with the former Brides Lane in Peoria. Dick had been a member of the Morton Riding Club. As a young man, he enjoyed rodeos, fishing and camping. More recently he enjoyed TV and watching the St. Louis Cardinals. Funeral services will be at 11 am on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington where visitation will be 1 hour prior. Pastor Chris Smithey will officiate. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memory Gardens in rural Washington. Military honors will be presented by the US Army and the Tazewell Military Rites Team. Memorials may be made to Central Illinois Riding Therapy.
