Obituary Richard Wayne Gillum, 69, of Washington, IL, died at 1:41 pm Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at Apostolic Christian Home in Eureka, IL. Born on June 22, 1942 in Danville, IL to John William and Zelma Fern Wonderlin Gillum, he married Carla S. Branaman on June 3, 2000 in Washington, IL. She survives. Also surviving are 4 children, Richard Wayne (Laura) Gillum Jr. of Coal City, IL, Myra Kathleen Schaefer of St. Charles, IL, Michael Scott (Mary) Gillum of Germantown Hills, IL, and Craig Adam (Mandy) Gillum of St. John, IN, 2 step-daughters, Julie (Eric) Dupree of Washington, IL, and Jennifer (Tim) Cohenour of Clinton, IL, 2 brothers, Ronald (Elizabeth) Gillum of Norman, OK, and Daryl (Cecilia) Gillum of Gainsville, GA, and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, Merrill Jack Gillum and 1 sister, Ila Jean Gillum Pichon. He proudly served with the US Army Special Forces, Green Berets. Richard was a graduate of Danville High School, and obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree from Lewis College in 1973, his MBA from Lewis University in 1980 and a Bachelor of Arts degree in teaching from Illinois State University. He retired from Illinois Bell/AT &T, and then taught in the business departments at Lamoile High School and Pekin High School, last teaching in 2002. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Washington. Services for Richard will be at 10 am Friday, April 13, 2012 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Pastor Eric Dupree will officiate. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Thursday, April 12, 2012 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery in Washington, where military rites will be accorded by the US Army and the Tazewell Military Rites Team.
