Obituary Washington - Richard S. Barnhill, 87, of Washington, Illinois died at 2:40 AM on Thursday April 24, 2014 at Morton Terrace in Morton, Illinois. He was born May 25, 1926 in Chicago to Stanley Venckus and Irene Eleanor Bowman. He married Nettie "Georgina" Grant on July 1, 1961 in Shawinigan Falls, Province of Quebec. She preceded him in death on October 3, 2009 in Washington, Illinois. Richard is survived by his daughter Tracie (Wayne) Carey of Washington, son Duncan Barnhill of Illinois and his grandson Grant Thomas Carey of Washington. He was proud to serve his country during World War II in the United States Navy as a Signalman on the ship USS Sangamon. After his service time he worked as a trucking dispatcher in Chicago for many years. He was last employed as a security guard at US ARMY Corp. Engineers & Development in Champaign. He was an avid golfer and Chicago Cubs fan. He spent the last four years as a resident at the Moehle Living Center in Washington. There will be a memorial service for Richard at 6 PM on Monday April 28, 2014 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Pastor Tom Goodell will officiate. Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
