Obituary Richard D. "Dick" Barkley, 83, of Morton passed away at 3:05am Friday, November 25, 2016 at Apostolic Christian Restmor in Morton. Dick was born December 7, 1932 in Marshall, IL to the late Carl and Dorothy Tobias Barkley. He married Kathryn Lewis on June 24, 1956 at Bellevue Bible Church in Bellevue; she survives. Also surviving are their children, Dr. Phillip (Jennifer) Barkley of Newberry, FL, Julia (John) LaMere of Little Elm, TX, and Elizabeth (Daren) Lowery of East Peoria; grandchildren, Nicholas and Kathryn Barkley; Elizabeth and Joshua LaMere; and Alexandra (John) Gaffney and Abigail Roberts; siblings, Janet Barkley of Oak Park, and Karen (David) Berry of Bartonville; and many nieces and nephews. Dick graduated from East Peoria High School in 1950 and served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955. He went on to become a Journeyman Electrician. He completed his technical training at DeVry Technical Institute and also attended classes at Bradley University. Dick worked at Keystone Steel and Wire Co. for 34 years, retiring in 1993. In his retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his wife and spending many hours on the golf course. He was also a master handyman. Dick was a member of First Christian Church (DOC) of Creve Coeur. He loved being "Poppie" to his grandkids and attending as many of their activities as possible. A funeral service for Dick will be held at noon, Monday November 28, 2016 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory, East Peoria. Pastor Dwight Winnett will officiate. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Cremation rites will be accorded following the service and inurnment will be in Fondulac Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church (DOC) of Creve Coeur or to Heart of Morton, in honor of Dick's grandson, Joshua.
