Obituary

Randy Gabbert, 61, of Washington, passed away peacefully at 5:25am Sunday, June 13, 2021 at his home, surrounded by family. He was born on July 29, 1959 to George Ronald and Johann Chance Gabbert, and was raised by Bill and Jan Arndt. He married Joann Doolan on May 26, 1979 in Peoria; she survives. Also surviving are his children, Shawn (Erin) Gabbert, Sawyer Gabbert, Mary (Brandon) Phelps all of Washington, and Tony (Theresa) Myrick of Iowa City, IA,; six grandchildren, Ady, Logan, Emmy, Ensley, Vinny, and Barrett; his siblings, Rick (Jessica) Gabbert, Rhonda Vogel, Rod (Cathie) Arndt, and Jennifer (Cliff) Meyer; and his many special nieces and nephews. Randy graduated from Washington Community High School and trained to become an elevator constructor, a trade he so enjoyed. He cherished his years of riding horses, as it formed many friendships, gave him countless great stories to tell, and best of all, it allowed him to meet his loving wife, who he considered himself lucky to love for 42 years. He was a jack of all trades and loved restoring cars and creating treasured pieces from wood. Nothing was officially broken until he couldn't fix it. When he wasn't on the golf course or in the garage, he could be found spending time with his children, grandchildren, or his dearly loved German Shepherds. He had a big heart and played an important role in the lives of many young people, as his home was always a safe place to land for a little while. He was a beloved husband, a proud father, an adoring PaPa, a loyal brother, an amusing uncle, and a faithful friend. His presence in the lives of those he loved will be missed every day. A visitation will be from 6-8:00pm Friday, June 18, 2021 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington.
