Rachel Lynne
Defreese
Mar 23, 1977 — Feb 12, 2025
Rachel Lynne deFreese, 47, of Congerville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at Carle Bromenn in Normal. She is now at rest in the presence of the Lord.
Born on March 23, 1977, in Peoria, Illinois, to Dale and Linda Klyce deFreese, Rachel grew up with a deep sense of curiosity and a passion for learning that never faded throughout her life. She was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. Rachel's warm heart, sharp wit, and independent spirit touched everyone who knew her.
Rachel's academic journey reflected her love for nature and all animals. She was educated at Calvary Baptist Academy before earning a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences from Illinois State University and a master's degree in Wildlife Biology from Auburn University. As a lifelong learner, Rachel had an insatiable curiosity and a self-driven desire to always expand her knowledge. Whether reading a new book, teaching herself to knit, or delving into scientific discovery, Rachel's desire for learning was ever-present.
In her spiritual life, Rachel found great comfort in the Scriptures and was an active member of Liberty Bible Church. Her faith was her foundation, providing her with strength and peace as she navigated the challenges of life.
Rachel was a woman of many talents. She had a gift for finding beauty in the simple things—whether it was through the art she loved, the photos she captured, or the detail of her knitted projects. A passionate baker, Rachel's desserts were a staple at family gatherings, always made with love and shared generously with those around her. Her love for animals, fitness, and nature brought her endless joy, and she always found comfort in spending time outdoors, appreciating the beauty and wonder of God's creation.
Family was central to Rachel's life. She was a devoted and loving daughter to her parents and cherished the special bond she shared with her brother and sister-in-law. She loved spending time with her nieces, Olivia and Allison, and her nephew, Kale. Her affection for them was evident in the many moments they shared together, filled with laughter, joy, and playful banter. Rachel's dry, witty sense of humor often left her family cracking up, particularly in her conversations with her brother, Ryan. She brought a unique light into their lives, always quick with a laugh or a clever remark.
Rachel was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents. She is survived by her parents, Dale and Linda deFreese of Congerville; her brother, Ryan (Ashley) deFreese of Eureka; her nieces and nephew, Olivia, Allison, and Kale; her beloved cat, Graby; and her extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Rachel's family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 PM on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at Liberty Bible Church in Eureka. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 17, 2025, also at the church. Interment will follow at Olio Township Cemetery in Eureka.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family to help with medical expenses.
Rachel's family takes comfort in knowing that she now rests in the presence of her Lord and Savior. She will be deeply missed by all who loved her.
