Obituary EAST PEORIA - R. Alverna McGuire, 90, of East Peoria, passed away peacefully at 3:35 am Monday, August 20, 2007 at her home with friends and family at her side. She was born in Peoria, IL on August 4, 1917 to A. E. (Roy) and Mabel Collander Faulkner. Her mother died when Alverna was 4 years old and she was raised by her father and step-mother, Roy and Vestel (Spiller) Faulkner. They preceded her in death. She married Virgil M. McGuire on November 26, 1936 in Springfield, IL. He preceded her in death on August 30, 2005. She was also preceded in death by an infant sister, and two nephews, Gene McGuire of New Jersey and Doug Kehl of Peoria. She is survived by one daughter, Carol of East Peoria and two sisters, Shirley (Dan) Kilpatrick of Bartonville and Pat (Gene) Brown of Peoria. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews, James (Elaine) McGuire of Oklahoma, Jerry (Kat) McGuire of Chicago, Jody Kehl of Bartonville, Diane (Jim) Jones of Mapleton, Cheryl (Randy) Hayward of South Carolina, David (Janet) Gualdoni of Bartonville and Dan Gualdoni of Virginia. Alverna was an active and faithful member of Bethany Missionary Church in East Peoria for over 55 years, where she taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, led Junior Church, sang in the choir and participated in the senior ministry group. She was also involved in the visiting ministry to area shut-ins and nursing home residents. She was known as the "church prayer warrior." She was loved by all who knew her and many of her friendships spanned 70-75 years. Alverna would want you to know that God answers prayer, His way is always best and Jesus is a wonderful Savior to serve. Funeral services for Alverna will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, August 25, 2007, at Deiters Funeral Home in East Peoria. The Rev. Joseph Weyer will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5-7 on Friday, August 24, 2007 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria.
