Obituary
CREVE COEUR - Phillip Keith Smallwood, 81, of Creve Coeur, IL, died at 11:58 pm Monday, September 5, 2011 at Snyder Village in Metamora, IL.
Born on August 21, 1930 in Saybrook, IL to John Wesley and Bertha Pearl Stout Smallwood, he married Lois Ann Kaiser in 1955. She preceded him in death on August 1, 1980. He later married Beverly K. Cookson on October 10, 1981 in Germantown Hills, IL. She survives.
Also surviving are 2 daughters, Debra Sue (Billy) Hansen of Huntington, TX and Mary Ann Stambaugh of Washington, IL, 2 sons, Allan Eugene Smallwood of Metamora, IL and Gary Lee (Gay) Smallwood of Norfolk, VA, 4 step-children, Kay Salazar of Nucla, CO, Lee (Don) Wheeler of Delavan, IL, Denna (Ron) Merritt of Pekin, IL, and Renna (Carl) Burk of Lacon, IL, 19 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters, and 3 brothers.
He proudly served in the US Army and in the Army National Guard of Illinois.
Phil worked as a Stationary Engineer for Caterpillar Tractor Co. for over 30 years, retiring in October of 1989. He had a great love for trains, history and family geneology.
Phil was the Coordinator for the Tazewell Military Rites Team and the Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team. He was also a Life Member of the VFW Post #4835 and the AmVets Post #169.
His family would like to thank the staff of Snyder Village and OSF Hospice for the loving care they provided to Phil during his illness.
A memorial service will be at 3 pm Thursday, September 8, 2011 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Bob Witowski will officiate. Memorial visitation will be from 1-3 pm Thursday at the funeral home. Military rites will follow the service, provided by the US Army, TMRT, and TACT. A graveside committal will be at 11 am Friday, September 9, 2011 at Drummer Township Cemetery in Gibson City, IL.
