Obituary

Obituary Washington - Phillip E. Metka, 75, of Washington, formerly of Dixon, IL died at 8:27 PM on Wednesday May 28, 2014 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. He was born December 30, 1938 in Enhaut, PA to Joseph and Louise (Bokan) Metka. He married Nancy Cougnet on February 17, 1962 in Baltimore, MD. She survives. Also surviving are his daughter, Stacey (Jeff) Little of Washington and his son, Dan (Kelly) Metka of Woodstock, GA; seven grandchildren, Brittany Metka, Stefanie (Alan) El-Darazi, Jacy Little, Taylor Little, Baylie Little, Lawson Metka, and Phillip Metka; one great-grand daughter, Patricia Bick; and two brothers, Jimmy (Lennie) Metka of Philadelphia, PA and Joseph (Emily) Metka of Carlisle, PA. He was preceded in death by his parents. Phil received his degree as a Certified Public Accountant from Northern Illinois University. For twenty-seven years he served as the CFO for Shaw Newspapers in Dixon, IL. He retired in 2007. During his years in Dixon as well as in Washington he loved to volunteer his time for various community events. He was Past President of the Dixon Rotary Club and the Petunia Festival. As a Dixon Rotarian he earned the Paul Harris Fellow Award. He volunteered at Threads Hope and Love in Washington and was a member of the Washington Rotary Club as well as St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He was an avid golfer and was a big sports fan in general. He loved spending the winter months on Amelia Island, FL, and spending time with his family. Phil especially enjoyed following his grandchildren's sporting events. There will be a Funeral Mass for Phil at 10 AM Monday June 2, 2014 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Washington. Father John Steffen will officiate. There will be a visitation from 2-4 PM Sunday June 1, 2014 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington and one half hour prior to the service at the church. There will be a prayer service at 3:45 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Interment will take place in Glendale Cemetery in Washington. In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Threads Hope and Love, P.O. Box 52, Washington, IL 61571.
