Obituary

Philip James Millar, 83, of Washington, passed away Monday, February 10, 2025 in Washington.

He was born December 24, 1941 in Crestwood to Thomas and Lucille (Spring) Millar.  He married Lynda Kolski in Midlothian on October 26, 1963.  She preceded him in death in 2007.

Surviving are four children, Michael Millar, Timothy Millar, Karen (Brian) Flaherty, Lori (Chris) Wieland; 15 grandchildren, Natxeli Millar, Ivan (Shelby) Millar, Tyler (Malorie) Millar, Olivia (Dionne) Timken, Colin Flaherty, Brendan (Ashley) Flaherty, Declan Flaherty, Liam Flaherty, Owen Flaherty, Aidan Flaherty, Tristan Flaherty, Evan Flaherty, Bradley Wieland, Samantha Wieland, Sydney Wieland; three great-grandchildren, Zion Timken, Ronan Flaherty, Halston Millar; two brothers, Thomas (Jeanette) Millar, Paul (Carolyn) Millar; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, spouse, and one brother, Lawrence.

Phil was a faithful Catholic and a parishoner of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Washington. He was a wonderful husband, sorely missing his wife Lynda after her passing in 2007. His interests included spending time with his family as well as camping and gardening and he always enjoyed talking to complete strangers. He relished being the ornery one.  As a father, Phil was his kids' biggest cheerleader - he coached them in baseball and softball as well as providing expert track and field advice. Phil was involved in Cub Scouts and then served as Scoutmaster for Troop 168 for many years. He enjoyed the challenge of solving problems as a Mechanical Engineer at Caterpillar and was proud to be able to retire early after 35 years. He gave back to his community as a hospice volunteer after Lynda passed away and leaves a legacy of faith, love, service and devotion to family.

A funeral mass will be held at 11am on Saturday, February 15th at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Washington.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the mass from 10 to 11am Saturday at the church.  Burial will be at Glendale Cemetery in Washington.  Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington is assisting the family with arrangements.
