Obituary Peter Joseph Sobieski, 80, of East Peoria passed away on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at 6:06PM at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Peter was born December 24, 1933 to Peter J. and Marya Dwulut Sobieski in Chicago. He married Nancy Jean Carty on September 28, 1957 in Chicago. Surviving are his wife, Nancy, of East Peoria; children, Marivern "Mari" Sobieski of Palos Heights, formerly of Burbank, Peter J.(Hazel) Sobieski III of Chicago, and Raymond J. (Amy) Sobieski of Washington; seven grandchildren, John, Ellen, Shaun, Katie, Carolyn, Samantha, and Joseph and three sisters, Lottie Oswald and Gloria Hardy, both of Oak Lawn and Sonia Corse of Port St. Lucie, FL. Peter was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Michael Patrick Sobieski; two brothers and two sisters. He served as a Chicago fireman for 36 years and retired as Captain of Truck Company 41 in 1996. Peter was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion Post 983 in East Peoria. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to PMD Foundation in honor of his grandson, Joey, at www.PMDfoundation.org. There will be a funeral Mass on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at 10:00AM at St. Monica's Catholic Church in East Peoria. Father Stephen Willard will officiate. Visitation will be on Friday, August 29, 2014 from 5-7PM at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington with a recitation of the Rosary at 4:30PM. Additional visitation will be a half hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Peoria.
