Peggy A. Smith, 70, of Washington, passed away at 10:26 pm Monday, April 30, 2018 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. She was born Oct. 20, 1947 in Butler, PA to Albert and Candace Huselton Steighner. She married Edward Smith in Butler, PA on Aug. 28, 1971. He survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Cassie (Kevin) Hart, Stevi Rzeszutko; four grandchildren, Maddi, Ali, Wesley, Isaac; and one brother, Robert (Sandy) Steighner. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Doreen Steighner. Peggy worked as school secretary at District 50 Beverly Manor in Washington. She retired in 2012 after 22 years of service. She was a former vice president of NTRA, past member of the Sunnyland Womens Club, and a Girl Scout leader for many years. She loved reading, sewing, and spending time with her grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Washington Public Library or Washington District 50 Schools "Wildcat Music Boosters." Cremation rites have been accorded. Family will receive friends from 4 to 6 pm Friday, May 4, 2018 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
