Obituary Pauline "Polly" Schmidt Gastman, 88, of Morton, formerly of East Peoria, passed away at 8:35pm, Friday July 26, 2013 at Apostolic Christian Restmor, Morton, surrounded by family and friends. Polly was born December 1, 1924 in East Peoria to Paul and Gladys Boundy Carroll. She married Kenneth Schmidt in 1944; he preceded her in death in 1965. She married Ben Gastman in 1972, and he preceded her in death in 1998. Surviving is a daughter, Cathy (Tom) Dougherty, Groveland; grandsons, Matt (Brittany) Dougherty, Iowa City, and Steve (Kim) Dougherty, Morton and their son, a great-grandson, Elijah; step-son, John (Barb) Gastman, Roanoke; step-daughter, Sandy (Gary) Kennell, Weatherford, TX; 5 step-grandchildren, 13 step-great-grandchildren; and a dear friend and caregiver, Ashley Tarpley. Polly was also preceded in death by two brothers, one sister, and one daughter, Julie Frietag, one niece Carol Wilkosz, and 1 nephew, Paul Carroll. She was an avid golfer, and liked to sew and knit. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family. Polly was a founding member of the First United Methodist Church of East Peoria. The family would like to thank the staff of Apostolic Christian Restmor for the wonderful care they gave to Polly over the last seven years. Funeral services for Polly will be held at 10:00am, Thursday, August 1, 2013 at First United Methodist Church, East Peoria. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00pm, Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory, East Peoria, and one half hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
