Obituary Paul R. Peterson, 86, of East Peoria, passed away at 7:08pm Thursday, January 21, 2016 at Morningside of Washington, IL. Paul was born June 19, 1929 in Hardin, IL to the late John J. and Nettie M. Corven Peterson. He married Betty J. McConville on August 29, 1953. She preceded him in death January 22, 2012. Surviving are his nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews. Paul was honorably discharged from the US Army in 1952 as a Technical Sergeant. In 2014 he was selected to participate in an Honor Flight. He worked for Caterpillar Tractor Co. for 37 years, retiring in 1984. He was a Mason for over 50 years, and belonged to the Hilton Lodge in East Peoria. He enjoyed volunteering his time and talents for many years with East Peoria Festival of Lights and the city's Beautification Commission. In 2015, the city honored him by establishing the first Paul Peterson Bright Spot Award at an intersection he tended for 31 years. A funeral service for Paul will be held at 2:00pm Monday, January 25, 2016 at Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in East Peoria. A visitation precedes the service from 12-2:00pm. Interment will be at Fondulac Cemetery, East Peoria. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Cemetery Details Fondulac Cemetery 1985 E.
