Paul R. Hartzell Sr., 83, of Washington, went home to be with the Lord he loved and served Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017 in Eureka. He was born April 13, 1934 in Peoria to Ervin and Elsie Barth Hartzell. They preceded him in death. He was married to his loving wife, Janice for 59 years. They were married in Peoria on June 26, 1958. She survives and he will be missed by her and his two children, Paul (Laurie) Hartzell Jr., and Julie (Jim) Selman. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, Emily, Samantha, Wesley, Shelley and Aaron. Paul was a Seabee veteran. He worked at Caterpillar Inc. for 30 years before retiring. He loved woodworking and leaves behind many of his beautiful creations in wood. He was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Peoria where he was on the Monday morning work crew for many years. He also was a door greeter there and made many friends that way. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Grace Presbyterian Church. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at Grace Presbyterian Church in Peoria, IL. The Rev. John Hopwood will officiate. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
