Obituary

Obituary Paul L. Haist, 90, of East Peoria passed away at 8:20 am Saturday, December 24, 2016 at Apostolic Christian Restmor in Morton with his wife by his side. He was born to Dale and Isabel (Patterson) Haist on April 10, 1926 in Table Grove, IL. He married Charlene Terpening on April 1, 1951 at St. Peters Lutheran Church in East Peoria and they enjoyed 65 years together. Paul is survived by his wife of 65 years; 2 sisters, Ruth Ford and Mary Keefauver both of Canton; brother, Gerald (Carolyn) Haist of Farmington; 12 nieces and nephews and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Marjorie Thorne and Marilyn Gibson. Paul was a U.S. Navy WWII veteran. After the war he worked for 18 years on M & SL Railroad and retired from O. Frank Heinz Construction Co. in 1986 after 35 years of service. He was the Past President of the Peoria Casting Club and a member of the Hilton Masonic Lodge and Consistory in East Peoria for 63 years. He enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling by train and motor home spending winters in Fort Myers, FL. He never had any children but enjoyed spending time with the kids in the neighborhood. He never knew a stranger and was always willing to give a helping hand. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Apostolic Christian Restmor, OSF Hospice or Lutheran Hillside Village. The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff at Apostolic Christian Restmor and OSF Hospice for all of their loving care. Cremation rites have been accorded per his wishes. There will be no services. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in East Peoria is in charge of arrangements.
