Obituary
Washington - Paul Charles Ficht, 76, of Washington, passed away at 7:15 a.m. Sunday, November 9, 2014 at Unity Point Methodist in Peoria.
He was born Aug. 20, 1938, in Peoria, to Charles and Edna (Schoenheider) Ficht. He married Consolacion "Ciony" Visaya in Washington, IL, on Jan. 17, 1981. She survives. Also surviving is his son, Edward, who presently works in Chicago; his 2 nieces, Linda of Kokomo, IN and Brenda of Renton, WA; and through his wife, he leaves numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, many of whom live in the Philippines, where his wife was born and raised. He was preceded in death by his parents and his only brother, Raymond.
He was a member of Evangelical United Brethren Church in Washington for over 40 years, and attended St. Patrick Catholic Church in Washington after his marriage. He had been active in Washington and Peoria church dartball leagues and had won many trophies for his batting average.
He graduated from Washington Community High School in 1956, and was inducted into the National Honor Society during his senior year of high school. He attended Illinois State University in Normal. He served 4 years in the U.S. Air Force as a geodetic surveyor in Texas, Florida, Kansas, Germany, France, England, and Scotland. Following this, he worked as a Geodetic Technician for the U.S. Army Map Service in Washington, D.C. He then served in the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey as a Geodesist in Minnesota; Northwest Territories, Canada; Copenhagen, Denmark; and Moses Lake, WA. He worked as a computer programmer at I.A.A. in Bloomington, and later as an assistant manager of the Parts Department at Graves Chevrolet-Oldsmobile in Chillicothe.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church or American Red Cross.
A memorial service with military honors for Paul will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington with Fr. Stephen Willard officiating. Family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home. Cremation rites have been accorded.
