Obituary Patricia L. Smith 77, of East Peoria died at 5:45 PM on Saturday January 25, 2014 at UnityPoint Health Methodist in Peoria. She was born in Peoria to Nelson and Alice Armstrong Stewart on October 4, 1936. After her father died when she was just five years old she was raised by her grandmother, Mabel Stewart. She recently celebrated sixty years of marriage with her husband Jerald "Jake" Smith whom she married on December 24, 1953 in Peoria. He survives. Also surviving are her three sons; Douglas N. Smith of East Peoria, David R. (Anna G.) Smith of Peoria, Walter W. (Tamera L.) Smith of East Peoria, two granddaughters; Alexandria N. and Emily Smith, and three nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas N. Stewart and her parents. Patricia retired from MultiAd, Inc. in Peoria after twenty years of service where she was the head of the research department. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and loved watching her granddaughters sporting events. She was a woman who loved athletics, and especially enjoyed bowling, golfing and volleyball. At the age of 16, she pitched the winning game in a local softball tournament and was subsequently interviewed at a Chicago Cubs baseball game. Cremation rites will be accorded. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in East Peoria is handling arrangements.
