Obituary

Patricia "Pattie" Kohorst, 74, of Washington, passed away Friday, July 10, 2026 at the Arc at Chillicothe.

She was born December 25, 1951 in Burlington, Iowa to the late Jack and Patricia (Hummel) Duke.  She married Mark E. Kohorst on December 7, 1974 in Galesburg, Illinois. They moved to Washington in 1980 where they raised their family.  He preceded her in death on May 9, 2018.

Surviving are three children, Erin (Stephen) Young, Anthony (Lindsay) Kohorst, Patrick Kohorst all of Washington; seven grandchildren, Emerson, Jackson, Whitney, Brayden, Maxwell, Genevieve, Annie; two brothers, Jay (DeLaine) Duke, Jody Duke; sister, Pamela Newberry; and several nieces and nephews.

Pattie graduated from Knox College. She later received her Masters of Arts Degree from Bradley University.  She most recently worked as a counselor at Peoria Heights Grade School for 13 years retiring in 2020. While there she received the School Counselor of the Year Award in 2013. Prior to that she worked as a social worker with Kiefer School and Children's Home of Peoria. Pattie was a dedicated volunteer across multiple organizations through her working years. She was extremely proud of her work with the Center for Prevention of Abuse. She also volunteered at many school functions at both her own children's schools as well as Peoria Heights.

Pattie enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and family. She never missed a ball game, concert, recital or any other opportunity to support her grandchildren. "Grammy" will be dearly missed by all.

Per her wishes, cremation has been accorded.  There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, July 18, 2026 from 3-7:00pm at the W Event Space in Washington.  Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington is assisting the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Center for Prevention of Abuse in Peoria or to TAPS No-Kill animal shelter in Pekin.
