WASHINGTONa"Orville J. Raitt, 76, of Washington died at 7:57 PM on Saturday, December 13, 2008 at Edward Hospital in Naperville, IL. He was born October 22, 1932 to Orville D. and Catherine Mulrooney Raitt in Chicago, IL. He married Jan M. Schuman on August 10, 1957 in Tinley Park, IL. She survives. Also surviving are 5 children, Bev (Bob) Walker of East Peoria, IL, Steve (Bonnie) Raitt of Canyon Country, CA, Tim (Lorri) Raitt of Washington, IL, Karen (Dennis) Kroeger of Washington, and Judy (Jerry) Volk of Washington; and 9 grandchildren, Troy, Jason, and Megan Walker, Miranda Raitt, Emily Carlock, Jazz Kroeger, and Zoe, Libby and Max Volk. He was preceded in death by his parents. Orville was a US Army veteran, serving during the Korean War. He retired from Caterpillar Inc. in 1996, after working for 36 years in Management Training.
Orville had belonged to the Mr. & Mrs. Dance Club at Pekin Country Club, and had been a member at Eastside Center in East Peoria as well as Five Points in Washington. He enjoyed golf, and was an avid crossword puzzle enthusiast. Orville was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Fr. John Menco Council, and was also a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Washington where a funeral mass will be held at 12 noon on Friday, December 19. The Rev. Joseph P. Donton will officiate. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 18 from 4-7 PM at Deiters Funeral Home in Washington, concluding with a prayer service beginning at 6:45 PM. Additional visitation will be held one hour prior to services on Friday at the church. Burial will be at Glendale Cemetery in Washington.
