Obituary
East Peoria - Norman D. Mills, 70, of East Peoria, died at 6:51 AM, Wednesday May 30, 2012 at his residence. He was born to Chester and Marie Spengeman Mills on May 9, 1942 in Vandalia, IL. He married Judy A. Spires on August 23, 1963 in Ramsey, IL. She survives. Also surviving are his daughter; Lisa Mills of Bloomington and his son; Michael (Wendy) Mills of St. Louis, MO. Five grandchildren also survive; Emily, Austin, Caitlin, Brianna, and Tyson. He was preceded in death by one sister Helena Washburn in 1982.
Norman worked 33 years as a Checking Engineer at Caterpillar Tractor Company, retiring in 2001. He also did contract work for Belcan and ACCS where he received the Lifetime Achievement Award. He was an avid golfer. He twice won flights in the Peoria Journal Star City Tournament. He won the Flight A Championship in 1974 and won the Flight C Championship in 1975. In 2003 he also won the Greater East Peoria Sr. Golf Tournament, taking first place in the Championship Flight. He also enjoyed bowling. He was a former member of Dayton Avenue Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher for many years. He was currently a member of Crossroads United Methodist Church in Washington.
There will be a funeral service for Norman on Saturday June 2, 2012 at 2 PM at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Pastor Tom Goodell will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery in Washington.
