Obituary

Obituary Washington- Nancy Lou Taylor, 74, of Metamora, formerly of Washington, passed away at 5:52AM on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at UnityPoint Health Methodist in Peoria, after a brief battle with cancer. Nancy was born December 6, 1939 in Peoria to Merle C. and Edith M. Hampson Coon. She married Karl K. Taylor on September 3, 1961 in Elmwood. He survives. Also surviving are three children, David (Gail) Taylor of Pekin, Andrea (Eric) Johnson of Morton, and Amy (Kirk) Steinbruecker of Bloomingdale; three grandchildren, Bennett Taylor, Taylor Johnson, and Haley Johnson; her siblings, M. Wayne (Patricia) Coon of Atlanta, GA, one sister-in-law, Jeannie Coon of Princeville, brother-in-law, Bill Dorris of Peoria, David (Betty Rae) Coon, PhD. of Pullman, WA, and Dr. John (Anita) Coon of Peoria. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, James Coon and one sister, Mary Ann Dorris. She was a League Member of the Heartland Festival Orchestra where she enjoyed hosting musicians in her home, a member and past president of the Peoria Fine Arts Society, a member of Washington Historical Society, a founding member of the Washington ENCORE group of Peoria Symphony Orchestra. She belonged to several book clubs and was a regular walker at Five Points. She was a member of PEO Chapter HG where she held various offices and was past president. Since the 1960's she has been a member of Washington Presbyterian Church where she has served as a Deacon, Elder, and financial secretary for fifteen years. She also taught Sunday school. She enjoyed being Picture Lady and a room mother for PTA. Nancy worked at several banks over the years, including Commercial Bank in Peoria as a teller, Boatmans Bank at Fort Leonardwood MO, Busey Bank in Champaign and Washington State Bank while she raised her family. She also ran the book store at Canton College. There will be a visitation Sunday, March 9, 2014 from 2-4PM at Washington Presbyterian Church and an hour prior to the service on Monday; Pastor Rebecca Weltmann will officiate. A funeral service will be held at 11AM, Monday, March 10, 2014 at the church. Interment will be at Elmwood Township Cemetery at 3:30 PM on Monday. There will be an informal gathering at Elmwood Presbyterian Church following interment. Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Festival Orchestra, JDRF, Washington Presbyterian Church, Five Points Washington or Elmwood Community Foundation.
