Obituary EAST PEORIAa"Monte K. Shirk, 77, of East Peoria, left this life on Monday, September 24, 2007. Born on October 19, 1929 in Pontiac, Michigan to Kermit R. and Olive M Allen Shirk, he married Barbara J Tobias on June 13, 1953 in Davenport, IA. Barbara survives. Also surviving are 3 sons, Mark (Kathy) Shirk of St. Paul, MN, Stephen (Denise) Shirk of Peoria, IL, and David Shirk of Washington, IL; 2 daughters, Christine (Bob) Quill of Glenview, IL, and Jeanne (Kirk) Ford of Peoria, IL; 1 brother, Jimmy (Shirley) Shirk of Denver, CO; and 7 grandchildren, Samantha, Kyle, Brandi, Leah, Joshua, Kara and Nicholas. Monte was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers. He served as a forward observer in the 2nd Infantry Division of the Army during the Korean War. Monte retired from Klaus Radio in 1991, with over 30 years of service. He was a member of the VFW, the Transportation Club, and the Caper Dance Club. Monte was a man's mana"he was an avid golfer, enjoyed hunting, fishing, and was an outdoorsman for most of his life. Especially enjoyed camping with his family. He also enjoyed traveling, and accomplished his goal of visiting each state in the Union. Monte never met a stranger, was a great conversationalist, and a friend to many. Please join his family at 1 PM on Friday, September 28, 2007, for a celebration of Monte's life at Deiters Funeral Home in East Peoria. Monte's family will be available to receive friends from 11 AM-1 PM on Friday at the funeral home. Cremation rites will be accorded following services, with private burial in Dury-Reynolds Township Cemetery at a later date.
