Obituary
WASHINGTON--Mona M. Wilson, 87, of Washington, died at 9:50 PM, on Saturday, May 17, 2008 at Washington Christian Village.
She was born on January 29, 1921 in Tyler, Arkansas to Ralph and Eula Burge Johnson. She married Elmo C. Wilson on February 25, 1941 in Newport, Arkansas; he survives.
Also surviving is 1 son Rudolph M.(Judy) Wilson of Arbela MO; 1 daughter Reta K.(Brad) Swearingen of Washington IL; 3 grandchildren, Jordan C.(Kim) Wilson of Mt. Pleasant IA, Jason A. (Carmelina) Swearingen of Washburn IL, Julie E.(Tom) Smith of Washington IL; 11 great grandchildren; 1 brother B. Joe (Gloria) Johnson of Bakersfield CA; 4 sisters, Marie Duke of Roll AZ, Mary Sue (A. J.) Winchester , Ida Ruth (Carl) Burress and Norma Lee Sheppard all of Bradford AR,; brother-in-law, Milton Wilson of Newport AR; 4 sisters-in-law, Bennie Johnson of Hemet CA, Hester M. Johnson of Bradford AR, Nina DeLand of Grosspoint MI; many nieces and nephews, her dear friends McKinney and Mary Smith, and her cousin she loved like a sister, Margaret Courtney.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings L. Lail Johnson, Robert R. Johnson, Elva Reinert, and an infant brother.
Mona retired as ac clerk from the Illinois Central College bookstore in 1982, where she had been employed since the opening of ICC in 1967. She was also a lifelong mathematician and took great pride in her ability to calculate cost and make change for her customers in her head. .
Mona was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved cooking cleaning and gardening and maintained her garden until August of 2007 when her health started to falter.
