Mike
Haywood
Mar 2, 1961 — Aug 8, 2024
Mike Haywood,63, of Washington, passed away at 11:24am Thursday, August 8, 2024 surrounded by his loving family and close childhood friends.
Mike was born March 2, 1961 in Spring Valley to Richard and Glenda Casey Haywood. He married Lori Toellen on October 24, 1981 at Sacred Heart Church in Granville.
Surviving is his wife, Lori; their children, Sheena(Ian) Lott, Garrick Haywood (Emily Schneider), and Kayleigh(Adam) Bonneur; his beloved grandchildren Ethan, Jonah, Jace, Benny, Ivy, Winnie, and Austin; his mother, Glenda; siblings, Ric(Carol) Haywood, Shawn (Diana) Haywood, Laurel, Rachel (Brian); his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lisa and Scott (Julie); and several nieces and nephews. He was recently preceded in death by his father, Richard.
Mike grew up in Putnam county where his adventurous spirit was fostered. In his early days he was referred to as "Huck Finn" as he was often found barefoot, exploring the woods, caves, and the banks of the Illinois river valley. His love of nature followed him his entire life. He instilled the same enjoyment and care for creation in his children and grandchildren.
Mike found great joy in gardening and landscape architecture. His children have fond memories of helping him work in the garden. He was a skilled craftsman whose attention to detail was unrivaled.
When Mike wasn't outdoors, you could find him working to meticulously restore the historical home he purchased for his family over two decades ago. His hard work over the years created a beautiful, welcoming home for his family to gather in for celebrations and holidays.
Mike's wife and children recall him truly enjoying the "simple things" in life. His children have cherished memories of wandering through the woods, pausing often to listen to their dad tell them about the wildlife and plants they were passing by. He carried on this tradition with his grandchildren as well. He was an amazing grandfather, who was loving and wonderful at mentoring his grandchildren.
Mike knew no stranger. You could always count on him for a helping hand, a good laugh, or a shoulder to lean on. His steadfast and adventurous spirit made an impact on so many, and will be deeply missed.
His family will receive from 2:00-4:00pm Sunday, August 18, 2024 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. A tribute to his life will follow at 4:30 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Forest Park Nature Center.
