Obituary WASHINGTON- Mel Hildebran, 83, of Washington, passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at 10:57P.M. at his residence, surrounded by loved ones. Mel was born on August 7, 1932 in Peoria to Carl and Eva Berkowitz Hildebran. He married Jean Dafnes on September 28, 1957 in Washington. She survives. Also surviving are his daughters, Melody (Tim) Narr of Hartford, WI, Dianna (Scott) Fowler of Washington and Dawn (Joe) Dalfonso of Washington; seven grandchildren, Jack (Lauren) Pendergast, Joe Pendergast, Andrew (Shawn) Fowler, Adam Fowler, J.D., David, and Dominick Dalfonso; two step grandchildren, Amy and Tyler Narr; one great-granddaughter Olivia Fowler; one brother, Carl (Tracy) Hildebran of Atlanta, GA; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Florence Law. Mel worked in the insurance industry for many years as a claim supervisor; last working at Pekin Insurance. He retired in December 1995. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a Bradley Alumni, served on the District 50 School Board and the Washington Park District Board. Mel loved to hunt, fish and play golf in his free time. He was an avid Green Bay Packers and St. Louis Cardinal fan. More importantly, he could always be found cheering on his grandsons at their sporting events through the years. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the UnityPoint Health- Methodist endoscopy nurses for their care and compassion throughout Mel's time there, as well as the nurses and staff at the Fresenius Medical Care in East Peoria. Memorials contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project. There will be a memorial service for Mel on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at 11:00AM, with a visitation a half hour prior to the service, from 10:30AM-11:00 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Father Stephen Willard will officiate. There will be a visitation on Tuesday, August, 18, 2015 from 5:00PM-7:00PM at the funeral home with a time of sharing to be held at 7:00PM.
