Obituary Washington - Max B. Shipley, 84, of Washington, died at Washington Christian Village on Sunday January 6, 2013 at 2:40 AM. He was born on September 17, 1928 in Thurman, Iowa to George R. and Rachel Buhr Shipley. He married Jacqueline Blumel on September 4, 1950 in Nebraska City, Nebraska. She survives. Also surviving are one daughter; Susan (Dan) Weick of Morton and two grandchildren; Brian and Shannon Weick of Morton. He was preceded in death by one sister Charlene Shipley. Max served his country in the United States Army during World War II. In 1953, he graduated from Southeast Community College in Milford, NE. He retired from CILCO after twenty years of service in 1987. He was a mechanic and a surveyor. He was a lifetime member of Society of Automotive Engineers. Max loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He was a great wood worker and handyman and was credited with finishing the home that he and Jacquie lived in. Max was a sports lover and played several sports in his younger years. He was especially fond of Baseball, which he played in the Minor League farm system of the New York Yankees. There will be a funeral for Max on Wednesday January 9, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington. Visitation will be from 9:30-11 at the funeral home. Father John Steffen will officiate. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery in Washington.
