Obituary
Washington- Mauna Jean Smelz, 80, of Washington, died at 2:22 a.m. on Sunday, September 16, 2007 at Washington Christian Village in Washington.
She was born on June 29, 1927 in Minier, IL, to Harvey and Bertha Fein Graff. She married Donald J. Smelz on July 7, 1945 in Peoria and was married for 60 years before He preceded her in death on August 26, 2005.
Also preceding her in death were two brothers, James and Harvey Graff, and one grandson, William J. Smeltz.
She is survived by two sons, Jeff (Debra) Smeltz of East Peoria; Victor (Janice) Smeltz of New Orleans, LA; two daughters, Charlotte Lehmann of Chesterfield, MO, and Jane (Samuel) Gordon of Portland, OR, two brothers, Gerald (Rosemary) Graff of Des Moines, IA , and Wayne (Inga) Graff of Litchfield; three sisters, Eileen Beutel of Tremont; Pat Miller of Heyworth, and Marge (Lawrance) Knobeloch of Newark, ; two sisters-in-law, Lou Graff of Delavan, and Joan Graff of Bloomington; seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Mauna was a real estate agent and broker, working with WRC, and later co-owner of Circle Four Realty Company in Washington. She also co-owned and helped manage Neptune Swim Club, which later became the Washington Park District Pool. Mauna was a devoted wife and mother. She was also a homemaker and enjoyed sewing, baking, and gardening.
She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Washington.
A funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 21, 2007 at her church. The Rev. Mark Miller will officiate. Visitation will be private. Burial will be at Glendale Cemetery in Washington. Deiters Funeral Home in Washington is in charge of arrangements.
