Obituary
WASHINGTON - Matthew Timothy Mannos, 34, of Washington, IL, died at 5:59 pm Thursday, November 17, 2011 at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria, IL.
He was born on March 25, 1977 in Peoria, IL to Timothy N. and Lynette S. Moss Mannos.
Surviving are his parents of Washington, IL, 1 brother, Aaron (Sarah) Mannos of Franksville, WI, his paternal grandmother, Dena Mannos of Wilmette, IL; his maternal grandparents, Everett and Val Moss of Eureka, IL; his godfather and uncle, Pete Mannos; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Dr. Nicholas Mannos, his great-grandparents, and a cousin, Martin Sutherland.
Matt attended Lincoln Grade School in Washington where he was in the band, participated in Scholastic Bowl for four years, was on the Chess Team and kept statistics for the basketball teams. While attending there, he received the Young Authors Award and the Louise Harte Award.
A 1995 graduate of Washington Community High School, he finished 6th in his graduating class. He was active in band for 2 years, playing percussion drums and participated on the Speech Team for 3 years. He was a member of the TV Club, where he was a host his senior year. He also served on the WCHS Newspaper Staff for 4 years, and as its Editor his senior year and was a member of the National Honor Society. Matt won a legislative scholarship which allowed him to attend the University of Illinois his freshman year.
Matt completed his Bachelor's Degree in History at the University of Illinois. There, he was an active member and served as an officer of the DSO (Disabled Student Organization) where he received the Tim Nugent Award for outstanding disabled students.
