Obituary Washington- Matilda Johanna (Skender) Ostanik took her last breath in this world on April 30, 2012, at the Washington Christian Village, the same way she lived her life - on her own terms. This beautiful gentle woman was born on February 2, 1917, to the late Matthew and Johanna (Ferkovich) Skender. She was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. She was married to her beloved Joseph M. Ostanik on May 27,1944 and he preceded her in death on July 20, 1988. Surviving are two sons, Joseph M. (Susan) Ostanik of San Diego, CA. and Thomas M. (Lois) Ostanik of Washington, IL. Tillie was a homemaker, an expert at crocheting, and her 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren claimed she made the absolute best chocolate chip cookies in the whole world. Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 AM Thursday, May 3, 2012 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in East Peoria. Pastor Fred Doughty will officiate with interment in Resurrection Cemetery in Peoria. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
