Obituary PEORIA-Mary Lockhart Schoening, 75, of Peoria, IL went to be with the Lord at 9:03 a.m. April 24, 2012 at Lutheran Hillside Village. Born in Minneapolis, MN on August 27, 1936 to Nels and Florence Sonnesyn, Mary was raised in Le Sueur, Mn. She attended Macalester College in St. Paul, MN and graduated from St. Barnabas Hospital School of Nursing in 1957. She married William B. Schoening of Edina on September 6, 1958. Mary is survived by her children, Ann (Paul) Stark of Peoria, Drew (Renee) Schoening of Deer Lodge, MT, and Paul (Elisabetta) Schoening of Plymouth, MN; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth, Caroline, and Stephanie Stark, Rachel and Peter Schoening, and Maria and Emma Schoening; her brother David (Deana) of Longmont, CO; and her dog, Miss Boo. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant granddaughter, Sarah Stark, her ex-husband, Bill Schoening and sister-in-law, Kathleen Sonnesyn. Mary practiced pediatric nursing for several years and later became a Montessori teacher. Music brought great joy to Mary throughout her life. She studied piano and voice, was a soloist as well as a member of the Minneapolis Choraliers, her church choir and the Good Samaritan Singers in Minneapolis. In retirement, Mary taught children in Musikgarten, MOPS, Community Bible Study and choir. She ushered for the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and was a counselor for Billy Graham Association. Mary had a deep love for her family. She was the family "historian" and a colorful storyteller. She could frequently be found on the floor playing with her grandchildren. Mary moved to Peoria in 2006. In the last year of her life she made many dear friends at Lutheran Hillside Village. Mary trusted Jesus Christ as her Savior and looked forward to spending eternity with Him. She worshipped at Grace Presbyterian Church in Peoria where a memorial service will be held Friday, May 11, 2012, at 11 a.m. Burial will take place at Mound Cemetery in LeSueur, MN at a later date.
