Obituary METAMORA--Mary D. Peck, 96, of Metamora, formerly of Washington, died at 8:25 PM, on Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at Snyder Village surrounded by her family. She was born on April 13, 1912 in Dillon Township, Illinois to Harold and Alice Sawyer Dean. She married Lowell B. Peck on May 23, 1936 in Mackinaw, Illinois. He preceded her in death on January 9, 1985 in Washington. Surviving are 2 daughters, Peg (John) Hafner and Betty (David) Doremus, both of Metamora; 1 son Dan (Viv) Peck of Greeley CO; 9 grandchildren, Deb Sackreiter, Jim Peck, Jenni Sweet, Tom Doremus, Todd Doremus, Jean Filson, Michelle Schmidt, Clay Hafner, and Lisa Abraham; and 24 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 son Lewis B. Peck, 2 grandsons Scott Doremus and Richard Peck, 1 great grandson Andrew Filson, 3 brothers and 1 sister. Mary graduated from Normal State Teacher's College and taught in several one-room schoolhouses in Tazewell County until the time of her marriage. She was a member of Crossroads United Methodist Church since 1948, and was active in the Women's Society of Christian Service for many years. Mary had an unconditional love for all of her family. A funeral service will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, May 10 at Deiters Funeral Home in Washington. The Rev. Bob Debolt will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Friday, May 9 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memory Gardens in Morton.
