Obituary Mary M. Hodel, 69, of Washington, passed away at 7:26 pm Thursday, Dec. 8, 2016 in the Emergency Room at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. She was born March 14, 1947 in Peoria to Homer W. and Ethel B. Parr Hendricks. Nine months after a blind date, she married Don K. Hodel in Peoria on May 18, 1968. He survives. Also surviving are 2 daughters, Rachel (Tom McCaw) Hodel of Creve Coeur, Leah (Dan) Herzing of Morton; 3 grandchildren, Logan and Alexis McCaw, and D. Raine Herzing; and her brother, Bert Hendricks of TX. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Connie Smith. Mary formerly worked as an accountant at Szolds, Sears and retired from Uftring Auto Group. She was a member of Northwoods Community Church, where she served on the church board of directors and helped initiate and lead the Friend Connection Ministry. Mary's greatest pride and joy were her grandchildren. She loved time spent with family and friends, gardening, and indulging in a good dessert. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 pm Wednesday, Dec. 14th at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Her funeral service will be at 11 am Thursday, Dec. 15, 2016 at the funeral home. Pastor David Bucknam will officiate. Cremation rites will be accorded following services. Memorials may be made to the American Liver Foundation.
