Mary L. Hanson, 95, long-time resident of Washington, IL, departed this life peacefully on October 5, 2022 at her home in Newark, Maryland.

She was born on August 28, 1927 in Houston, Missouri to Ernest A. and Marian Smith DeWitt.  She married Dale F. Hanson on June 1, 1951 in Raymondville, Missouri.

Surviving are one son, Richard (Christine) Hanson; two sisters, Barbara Kay Johnson and Pat Thatcher; one grandson, David (Rachel) Hanson; one granddaughter, Emelia (Aaron) Schinke; one great-granddaughter, Quinn Hanson; and several nieces and nephews who all loved her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband; parents; and brother, Allen "Bud" Grose.

Mary lived through the Great Depression, World War II, the Sixties, the Vietnam War, 9/11, and all the major events of the past century.  She was a lifelong homemaker and a loving aunt to all her nieces and nephews throughout her lifetime.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, October 15, 2022 at 1:00pm at Glendale Cemetery in Washington, IL.  Bishop-Hastings Funeral Home of Selbyville, Delaware and Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington, IL are assisting the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Jude Children's Hospital or to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
