Obituary

Marvine Engel, 98, of Washington, passed away on February 24, 2025 at the Apostolic Christian Home of Eureka: their kind, loving care during the last months of her life was such a gift.

She was born September 21, 1926 in Normal  to the late Edward J. and Sarah M. Unsicker Schultz. On August 1, 1948, she married Dr. H.W. "Bud" Engel in Bloomington; they shared 54 years together until his passing on March 18, 2002.

Surviving are their daughters, Tami (Jim) Saunders, Karen (Greg) Kremer, Jill (Dennis) Hermann, and Penny (Rich) Benson, all of Washington; nine grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren.

As a young woman, Marvine was employed by State Farm insurance. When Bud was  attending dental school, she worked at Presbyterian St. Luke Hospital. A longtime Washington resident, she enjoyed being a member of several card clubs over the years, working in Dr. Baer's office and was a member of the Peoria Dental Auxiliary. She was a faithful, active member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church. Over the years she served the church through VBS, the Altar Guild, serving dinner for the Wednesday night youth group, and in countless other ways.  A proud Panther Booster, she loved attending WCHS football and basketball games, even earning the distinction of Fan of the Year. In her later years she enjoyed traveling with her husband and golfing in the Kaufman Park Ladies' League. Her greatest source of joy was when her entire family was together and they will fondly remember Sunday night dinners hosted in her home on Oakwood Dr.

Marvine's family will receive friends from 4-6:00pm Friday, February 28, 2025 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. A service to celebrate her life will be held at 10:30am Saturday, March 1, 2025 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Washington. Interment will be at Glendale Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark's Lutheran Church or the Apostolic Christian Home of Eureka.
