Obituary Washington - Marvin L. Hines, 93, of Washington died at 12:20 PM on Thursday April 3, 2014 at Washington Christian Village in Washington. He was born January 11, 1921 in Florence, Alabama to William Claude and Mattie Gandy Hines. He was married to his wife, Mossie "Lucille" Williams for 76 years. They were married on December 24, 1937 in Alabama. She survives. Also surviving is one son William L. "Bill" (Patricia) Hines of Bedford, TX; one sister, Ruth Roberts of Washington; three grandchildren, Kevin (Emily) Hines of Avon, IN, Kim (Tim) Sullivan of Crystal, MN, and Kirk (Shelly) Hines of Washington; seven great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters. Marvin proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. He worked 32 years at Caterpillar as a machinist and an inspector, retiring in 1982. He was a member of Paris Avenue Church of Christ in Peoria. Marvin loved his church and his family, and both had a very special place in his heart. Marvin also loved music and was passionate about playing his guitar and mandolin. In his later years, spending time on the golf course with his "golf buddies" was something he greatly enjoyed. There will be a funeral service for Marvin on Monday April 7, 2014 at 10 AM at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Rick Liggin will officiate. There will be a visitation from 5-7PM Sunday, April 6, 2014 at the funeral home and a half hour prior to the service on Monday. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memory Gardens in Morton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Moehle Living Center (Supportive Living of Washington) or the American Heart Association.
