Obituary Washington - Martin J. "Joe" Higgins, 83, of Washington died at 12:54 PM on Sunday February 17, 2013 at his residence. He was born on January 24, 1930 in New York City, New York to Martin and Margaret Dempsey Higgins. He married Doris Trapp in 1950 in Peoria. She survives. He is also survived by three sons; Daniel Higgins of Peoria and Scott (Kim) Higgins and Adam (Teri) Higgins both of Browns Valley, CA, eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son Steven, two brothers and his parents. Joe worked for Hiram Walker in Peoria for thirty-three years as a bottler. He was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church and Monsignor E.L. Grzybowski Council 7580 Knights Of Columbus in East Peoria. Joe enjoyed his family above all things. He lived a simple life with simple pleasures. There will be a Funeral Mass at 11 AM on Wednesday February 20, 2013 at St. Monica Catholic Church in East Peoria. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at Hillcrest Memory Gardens in Morton. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington is handling arrangements.
