Obituary PEORIA - Martha R. Vogen, 99, of Peoria, and formerly of Yorkville, IL and Morton, IL, died at 9:11 pm Monday, July 28, 2008 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria after a short illness. She was born on July 13, 1909 near Minooka, IL a daughter of Ole and Kari Nerhus Ragnes. She married her husband of more than 50 years, Arnold J. Vogen, on June 23, 1942 in Morris, IL. He died on April 28, 1993 in Aurora, IL. Also preceding her in death are ten brothers and sisters. She is survived by one daughter, Jane (Dick) Williams of Peoria, 5 grandchildren, Marc (Maribeth) of Algonquin, IL, Rich (Sonni) Williams and Ben Williams, both of Peoria, IL, Andrew Williams of Bakersfield, CA, and JaneAnne (Sergio) Cervantes of Rancho Cucamonga, CA and 3 great-grandchildren, Ian, Alex, and Katiana Williams. Martha graduated first in her class from Joliet High School. She earned degrees from Illinois State University, Northern Illinois University, and University of Chicago. She taught school for 43 years in Aurora West Schools and then substituted for 17 more years after retiring. She traveled all over the world and loved her flower garden. She was a member of Sons of Norway of Aurora and taught Norwegian. She celebrated her 92nd birthday in Paris, France, and drove her car until she was 95. The last two years of her life she lived very happily at Apostolic Christian Restmor in Morton, IL. Martha was a member of the Plattville Lutheran Church in Minooka, IL. Cremation rites will be accorded. Graveside burial of the cremains will be at a later date in Plattville Lutheran Cemetery in Minooka, IL. Deiters Funeral Home in East Peoria is in charge of arrangements.
