Marjorie "Marge" Hughes, 91, of Rockford, passed away at 8:45pm Thursday, July 27, 2023 at Carle Health Methodist Hospital in Peoria.

She was born March 8, 1932 in Ripley Co., MO to the late Orval M. and Nettie Miller Byrd. She married Henry R. Hughes on Jul 24, 1954; he preceded her in death in 2005.

Surviving are her children, Debbie (Roger) Anderson of Rockton and Bill (Kathy) Hughes of Washington; grandchildren, Christopher (Ann) and Kallie (Jerry); brother, George Byrd; sister-in-law Velma Byrd; and her nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by an infant son, Johnny; and four siblings.

Marge worked for a time at Illinois Cabinet and then took great pride in caring for her home and family. In her retirement, she enjoyed simple things like watching the birds and squirrels go about their day. working in the garden, and working puzzle books. She was spunky and active, always ready with a quick reply.

Visitation will be held from 2-4:00pm Friday, August 4, 2023 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Graveside service will be held at 1:00pm Monday, August 7, 2023 at Willwood Burial Park in Rockford.
