Obituary EAST PEORIA-Margaret "Peg" Bahnfleth, 92, of East Peoria, passed away at 2:45pm Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at her home. Peg was born in Cheyenne, WY on April 15, 1921 to Carl Frederick, Sr. and Erma Helen Elsie Roeseler Bach. She married Raymond Walter Bahnfleth August 24, 1946 in East Peoria. He preceded her in death November 23, 2009. She is survived by a brother, Robert (Judith) Bach, Sr., Morton; and six nieces and nephews, Robin Kaercher, Bradenton, FL, Raymond Bach, SD, Debra Germain, MI, Thomas Bach, OK, Robert (Lynn) Bach, Jr. and Jane (Kevin) Bach-Brummitt, both of East Peoria, IL. She was preceded in death by one sister, Caroline Will-Smith and one brother, Carl F. Bach, Jr. Peg was a 1939 graduate of East Peoria High School. She graduated from Illinois State University in 1942 and went on to attend Bradley University. At Bradley, she graduated in 1952 with an Elementary Education degree and a Master's of Education degree in 1953. She taught in East Peoria District 86 from 1942-1956, where she became the Dean of Girls in District 309, holding that position till 1968. From 1968-1976 she was the Director of Academic Advisement at ICC. Upon retiring from ICC, she created the Margaret Bach Bahnfleth Scholarship for EPCHS graduates. Peg was very active in her community as a member of the Women's International Bowling Congress from 1942-66, an original member of the Hillcrest Ladies Golf League from 1962-66, and a co-founder and current member of the Fondulac Ladies' Golf League. She was a member of the East Peoria Women's Club since 1957 and she received outstanding woman of the year award in 1982. Peg was the Coronet Lady in 1966. Since 1967, she was an active member of the Fonduland YMCA, where she also served as their chairwoman. Peg originated the American Field Service program at EPCHS, was a charter member of the Fonduland American Business Women and received Woman of the Year in 1973. She continued to serve East Peoria as an active member of the Historical Society, Boat Club, Beautification Commission, Citizens' Advisory Board, Planning Commission, Fondulac Park Board and Friend of the Fondulac Library. She also served as Easter Seal Parade Colonel in 1968, Chairman of the HOI United Fund, on the United Way Board of Directors, Tazewell County Court Counselor, and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Advisory Theta Alpha Chi, and the American Association of University Women. Peg was a great volunteer and philanthropist to many local organizations supporting the arts. She loved travelling the world and shared her experiences through many talks and programs at Fondulac Park District. Memorial services for Peg will be held at 5:00 pm Friday July 12, 2013 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory, East Peoria. Memorial visitation will be at the funeral home from 3:00-4:45 pm with a musical tribute at 4:45 until the time of service. Cremation rites have been accorded and private inurnment will be at Fondulac Cemetery.
