Obituary
Louis A. "Louie" Venzon, 84, of Washington, IL, died at 2:22 pm Sunday, January 19, 2014 at his home.
Born on March 29, 1929 in Peoria, IL to Angelo and Margaret Garino Venzon, he married Harriet V. Howat on November 1, 1952 in Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are 7 children; Mary (Bob) Kinney of East Peoria, IL, Michael Venzon of Corpus Christi, TX, Patricia Dion of Maplewood, MO, Dianne Venzon (Terry Larsen) of Stockton, CA, Jean (Tim) Lappin of Rantoul, IL, Timothy (Terri) Venzon of Glen Ellen, IL, and Thomas (Tina) Venzon of Grants Pass, OR; and 7 siblings; Mary (Nick) Irrera of East Peoria, IL, John (Carol) Venzon of Peoria, IL, James Venzon of CA, Barb Kenny of Peoria, IL, Joe (Chris) Venzon of Washington, IL, Michael (Cathy) Venzon of Wheaton, IL, and Steve (Kathy) Venzon of TX.
Also surviving are 16 grandchildren; Patrick (Jill) Kinney, Michael (Jena) Kinney, Meghan Kinney, John Venzon, Mark Venzon, Adam Dion, Erin Walker, Amee Dion, Tony Stevens, Matt Stevens, Allison Lappin, Quinn Lappin, Nick Venzon, Kayte Venzon, Zack Venzon, and Elizabeth Venzon; and 8 great-grandchildren; Aidan, Maeve, Hannah, Caleb, Zidian, Tony, Jr., Darrian, and Ryan.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 brother, Robert.
He was a US Army veteran, serving from 1951-1953.
Louie worked in the family business, Venzon Heating and Air Conditioning, with his dad and 2 brothers for 40 years. He later worked at St. Patrick Church and School in Washington doing maintenance, remodeling, and running the school bus program. He also enjoyed 12 years of work at Uftring Chevrolet in Washington, where he did various maintenance and building projects.
He was an active 51 year member of St. Patrick Church, where he served on the Finance Committee, sang and directed the choir, was on the RCIA team, and served as President of the Men's Club. He also was a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus Fr. John Menco Council #6707 in Washington and was a fourth degree member of the Spalding Council #427 in Peoria.
Enjoying travel, Louie and Harriet traveled to all 50 states and Europe and also enjoyed family camping trips. He also enjoyed all kinds of sports.
Louis was a simple man who enjoyed life, was proud of his Italian heritage, and in his words, "Loved his wife and spaghetti."
A funeral mass will be at 11 am Saturday, January 25, 2014 at St. Patrick Church in Washington. Father John Steffen will officiate. Visitation will be from 4-6 pm Friday, January 24, 2014 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington, where a prayer service will be at 6 pm. Additional visitation will begin at 10:30 am Saturday at the church. Cremation rites will be accorded following the services.
