Obituary Loren E. Toevs, 83, of East Peoria, passed away at 8:50pm Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at Apostolic Christian Restmor in Morton. Loren was born September 4, 1932 in Halstead, KS to the late Edward and Jenny Hensley Toevs. He married Mary Margaret Reising April 27, 1957. She preceded him in death April 26, 2012. Surviving are their children, Lori Toevs of Galena, MD, Lisa (Mike) Smith of Colorado Springs, CO, Lynne (Tom) Zimmerman of Mackinaw, Lauren (Kaye Abbey) Toevs of North Pekin, and Robert E. (Ann) Toevs of Bay City, MI; grandchildren, Joshua and Jorden Smith; Samantha (Witbracht) Migit and Sydnee Zimmerman; Ray and Becky Abbey; and Seely and Finly Toevs; great-granddaughter, LuOra Abbey; and a brother, Harold Toevs of Melton, PA. Loren graduated from Kansas State University in 1956 and then went into active service as a Navigator with the Air Force. After his discharge from the Air Force, he then served in the Air National Guard attaining the rank of Major, retiring in 1977. He had 42 years of service with Caterpillar, retiring from the Proving Grounds in 1997 as a senior technical engineer. Loren was an active member of St. Monica's Church in East Peoria and the Msgr. E.L. Grzybowski Council 7580 of the Knights of Columbus. He also served on the Tazewell County Zoning Board and was an active member of the Republican Party. He was an avid bowler and was actively involved with East Peoria Girls Fastpitch Association in the 80s. A funeral Mass for Loren will be held at 10:00am Monday, February 1, 2016 at St. Monica's Church in East Peoria. Visitation will be from 4-6:00pm Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in East Peoria. Additional visitation will be one half hour prior to the Mass. Entombment will be at Resurrection Mausoleum in Peoria. Father Stephen Willard will officiate.
