WASHINGTONa"Loren D. Hemmele, 81, of Washington died at 1:07 PM on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Born Dec 13, 1929 in Peoria to Benjamin R. and Clara Auth Hemmele, he married Barbara Browning on March 8, 1952 in Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are 4 children, Gregory of East Peoria, Mark (Kristy) of Peoria, Benny of Menasha, WI and Lori of Washington; 11 grandchildren, Renee, Maggie, Matt, Derrell, Eric, Paige, Alexandrea, Joshua, Derrick, Bobby and Zachary; 7 great grandchildren, Michael, Ainsley, Isaac, Cole, Alannah, Bryson, and Mason; and 2 sisters, Jane Mason and Rae Marie (Dean) Smith both of East Peoria.
Loren was a US Navy Korean War Veteran, serving for a total of 36 years which included service with the Naval Reserve and Seabees until 1984.
He was a 1948 graduate of Woodruff High School in Peoria. Loren was a member of the Carpenters Union Local #183 in Peoria and was a Millwright at Pabst. He also worked as a security guard at ICC and umpired both baseball and softball for many years.
Loren was a member of the Madison Avenue Methodist Church in Peoria, the American Legion Post 100, and served as a Scout Master in Sunnyland for Pack #206.
He was a diehard Cubs and Bears fan, and loved all sports.
A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Monday, May 16, 2011 at Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington with Pastor Kirk Moser officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Burial will follow at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria, where military rites will be accorded.
