Obituary EAST PEORIA- Lois A. Carter, 83, of East Peoria passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at 2:22 A.M. at her residence. Lois was born January 6, 1931 in Peoria to Carrie and Grace Ray Hutchcraft. She married Dr. Wendell Carter on April 22, 1964 in Peoria. He survives. Also surviving are her children, Victoria (Ronald) Nelson of East Peoria, Genanne (Frank) Bombola of Lodi, CA, Leslee (Douglas) Haggard of Memphis, TN, Robert Frank of East Peoria, Melody Hart of Orlando, FL, and Wendell (Sarah) Carter II of Peoria; one brother, Kenneth (Carolyn ) Hutchcraft of East Peoria; 12 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Lois was preceded in death by her parents; 2 sisters, Doris Legaz and Wanda Nance and one brother, Daniel Hutchcraft. Lois was a 1949 graduate of Woodruff High School. She then attended Illinois Central College. She worked at OSF Medical Center as an admissions clerk in the emergency room for a number of years. She was a swimming instructor at the YWCA and enjoyed participating in synchronized swimming. She was certified by the Red Cross and taught life saving around the area. She was also the winner of the Illinois Stallion Stakes in Decatur in the early 1980s. There will be a funeral service for Lois on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at 7:00PM at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Pastor Jim Gorby will officiate. A visitation will be held two hours prior to the service. A private interment will be at Swan Lake Memory Gardens. Memorials contributions may be made to the American Cancer Association.
