Obituary
EAST PEORIA - Lloyd F. Wilson, 87, of East Peoria, IL died at 2:34 pm Sunday, September 12, 2010 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Born on March 15, 1923 in Moundsville, WV to Ira H. and Ida M. Foster Wilson, he married Verna M. Schmidt in 1942. She preceded him in death in 1997. He later married Dorothy E. Stickle on November 10, 2000 in East Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are 1 daughter, Candy (Roger) Smith of Chillicothe, IL; 2 step-daughters, Betty Freeman of East Peoria, IL, JoAnna (Ed) Abell of Sparta, TN; 2 grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by 1 brother.
Lloyd was a World War II Navy veteran who proudly served on the USS Nevada. He was the recipient of the Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal, American Area Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and European African Middle Eastern Area Campaign Medal (I Star). Lloyd was a major historian of the Navy fleet and built plastic model ships down to the minute details. He was a salesman for Schmidt Bros. Produce in East Peoria for over 30 years. Lloyd was a very generous man who helped individuals every day, sometimes receiving recognition and sometimes not! Lloyd and Dorothy were known as being very social and enjoyed eating out at the local restaurants, especially the Lariat Club, the Galley, and Bernardi's.
Funeral services will be at 11 am Thursday, September 16, 2010 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in East Peoria. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Wednesday, September 15, 2010 and hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria with military rites provided by the US Navy and the Tazewell Military Rites Team.
