Obituary Washington - Lila M. Atwater, 77, of Washington, died at 12:47 PM on Sunday April 29, 2012 at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria. She was born September 21, 1934 at her home in rural Astoria, IL to John and Maude Wickwire Shaw and she grew up in Ipava, IL. Lila is survived by one son; Jeff (Melanie) Atwater of Mapleton and two daughters; Lori (Terry) Fitzgerald of Metamora and Julie Atwater of Peoria Heights, seven grandchildren; Ryan and Brett Fitzgerald, Brianne (Jack) Doyle, Marissa Atwater, Regan (Ryan) Jimison, Adrienne (Gene) Pavlovsky, Briana (Tim) Henning, six great grandchildren, two sisters; Frances Hilton of Smithfield and Rosellen Cluney of Bradley. She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers; Herbert, Willard, Larry, and Jim. Lila was a 1952 graduate of VIT High School in Table Grove, IL and a 1955 graduate of Graham Hospital School of Nursing in Canton where she worked as a nurse for many years. She was a member of Roland Manor Baptist Church. She had a heart for helping others and was a wonderful mom, grandma, great-grandma, sister, aunt, and nurse and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, and sewing. Lila also loved her pet cat, Luke. A funeral service will be held at 11AM on Thursday May 3, 2012 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Pastor Steve Hardin will officiate. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria.
