Obituary
EAST PEORIAa"Lexie was born to Henry and Sula Pickens on Oct. 9, 1917 in Bath Springs, TN. She passed on to eternal glory at her home the morning of April 25, 2007, with her family by her side.
She married Richard (Dick) Martin on May 10, 1942. They have 3 daughters, Donna (Terry) Hoyland, Dianne (Steve) Brandt and Danita Martin; three grandchildren, Trina (Randy) Hancock, Dawn (Troy) Gries, and Andrea (Scott) Haney; six great-grandchildren, Shannon, Shayla, Lexie, Morgan, Catherine and Hunter.
Three sisters and a brother preceded her in death.
Lexie attended school in Decaturville, Tennessee and later completed business school in Nashville. After graduation she worked at the Tennessee state capital building for several years. After moving to Peoria, she worked at Little Giant and Caterpillar before devoting fulltime to her proudest task of loving Mother and Grandmother. She loved garage sales and shopping, especially shoe shopping. She bowled for many years with her three daughters. Many trips were taken to Moline to Bishops Restaurant, where she ate more pie than anyone. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Lexie will be greatly missed by her adoring family. She was the rock that made the family strong through her faith, strength, caring, and nurturing. Family was the center of Lexie's being and she was a true friend of Jesus. Lexie was a member of Pekin First Church of the Nazarene.
A funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Monday, April 30, 2007 at Deiters Funeral Home in Washington. The Rev. Lloyd Brock will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4-6 PM on Sunday, April 29, 2007, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria.
