Obituary WASHINGTON - Leonard K. Gaworski, 81, of Washington, IL died at 5:20 pm Saturday, December 11, 2010 at his home. Born on September 29, 1929 in De Pue, IL to Alexander and Frances Belle Pyles Gaworski, he married Donna Jean Ivanovich on December 23, 1951 in Peoria, IL. She preceded him in death on November 4, 2009 in Washington, IL. Surviving are four children, Steven (Kathy) Gaworski of St. Louis, MO, Lynne Gaworski, Tim (Tammy) Gaworski, and Jennifer Gaworski, all of Washington, IL, a sister, Garnet (George) Sales of Brimfield, IL, two brothers, Ed (Medaria) Gaworski of Callahan, FL, and David (Pashion) Gaworski of Peoria, IL, three grandchildren, Joy (Jason) Shults, David (Mary Beth) Gaworski, and Christopher Gaworski, and six great-grandchildren. He will also be greatly missed by his chihuahua, Petey. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Daniel Gaworski, one brother, Ernie Gaworski, and one sister, Margaret Reynolds. Leonard was an over-the-road truck driver, working for several different companies until 1962, when he began working for Sturm Freightways, which later became Hyman Freightways. He was proud that he had been inducted into the Two Million Mile Club of accident free driving by Hyman Freightways. He retired from Hyman in 1992. He was a member of Teamsters Local #627. Leonard enjoyed golf, watching sports, and driving across the country with his wife in their travel trailer. He also received his pilot's license and enjoyed flying small planes. Leonard was an army combat veteran, serving in Korea as part of an elite guard called the "Riot Squad." He was honorably discharged in 1952 with the rank of Sergeant First Class. His family would like to thank the physicians, nurses, and staff of Peoria Cancer Care and OSF Hospice. We appreciate everything that you did for our Dad. Services for Leonard will be at 11 am Thursday, December 16, 2010 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery in Peoria.
