Obituary Washington - Leonard "Len" Bailey, 82, of Washington, Died at 9:45pm December 9, 2011 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Eureka, IL. He was born on October 2, 1929 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Cecil and Mary Butler Bailey. Len married Jerlyn A. Dobson on August 14, 1954 in Fort Madison, Iowa. Len is survived by his wife and two children; Chad (Denise) Bailey of Washington, and Brooke Bailey of Stone Mountain, Georgia; He is also survived by his brother Jerry (Carol) Bailey of Stockton, California, 2 step granddaughters Tasha and Jordan, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 5 sisters. Len worked at Komatsu for 41 years in Production Scheduling. Len was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Washington, where he worked as a custodian for 7 years. Len served on the Tazewell County Board for 10 years, and Tri-County Planning Commission for more than 7 years. He was instrumental in setting up the Health Department in Tazewell County. Len was also a member of the Hilton Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Consistory, and the Peoria Shriners. Len was also an avid baseball enthusiast. He pitched for the Brooklyn Dodgers Farm System and was also a member of the Sunday Morning League Hall of Fame. Len was a loving and devoted husband and father who enjoyed spending time with his family. He also coached and invested in many local youth over the years. Before his death, Len placed his trust in Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior. There will be a memorial service for Len on Wednesday, December 14 at 2:00pm at the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Washington, with Pastor John Hauck officiating. There will be a visitation at the church from noon to 2:00pm on Wednesday. Cremation rites will be accorded. Private inurnment will be in Glendale Cemetery in Washington.
