Obituary MORTONa"Lelia E. (Owen) Newcomb, 93, formerly of Mackinaw, passed away at 6:45 PM on Thursday, July 30, 2009 at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria, surrounded by her loving family. Lelia was born in Maquoketa, IA, December 18, 1915 to Thomas and Edna Davenport Owen. She married John L. Newcomb on September 14, 1935 in Peoria, IL. She is survived by her daughters, JoAnna (Jerry) Young, Sharon (Wilbur) Neumann, and Sandra (Joe) Wheeler; 7 grandchildren, Jeff, Craig and Debbie Neumann, Clint (Mei) Young, Carrie (Mark) Schmidt, Brad (Sandy) Wheeler, Tim (Jeri Lynn) Wheeler; 12 great grandchildren, Brad (Jaime) Wheeler, Justin (Khristie) Neumann, Joshua Neumann now serving with the US Army in Iraq, Erin Young, Lauren Schmidt, Melanie Young, Jessie Wheeler, Amara, Marina and Kennedy Wheeler, Leah and Andrew Surrels, and 2 great great grandchildren, Grace and Abigail Wheeler. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband John in 2003, 3 brothers, 4 sisters, and 2 grandchildren, David Neumann and Roger Wheeler. Lelia worked with her husband John in the printing and bindery industry for many years. She loved square dancing, camping, fishing, traveling and family get-togethers. She taught Sunday school and was a Girl Scout leader and was active in the Pleasant Hill Mother's Club. She was a member of the Mackinaw United Methodist Church. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, August 4 at Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in East Peoria. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Monday, August 3 at the funeral home.
